Synopsis
Carmen tells the story of a passionate and free-spirited gypsy woman who works in a cigarette factory in Seville, Spain. She captivates the soldier Don José with her charm, leading him to abandon his former life, including his fiancée and military duties. However, Carmen's love is fleeting, and she soon becomes infatuated with the bullfighter Escamillo. Consumed by jealousy and unable to accept her rejection, Don José confronts Carmen outside the bullring during a festival. In a tragic climax, Don José kills Carmen in a fit of rage as Escamillo triumphs in the arena. The opera explores themes of love, freedom, jealousy, and fate, set against the vibrant backdrop of Spanish culture.
