My Fair Lady

Music by Frederick Loewe

Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner

Synopsis

My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl with a strong accent, who becomes the subject of a social experiment by Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetics expert. Higgins bets that he can transform Eliza into a refined lady who can pass as a duchess at an embassy ball. Through rigorous speech lessons and etiquette training, Eliza undergoes a remarkable transformation, but the process also challenges her sense of identity and self-worth. As the story unfolds, the relationship between Eliza and Higgins evolves, exploring themes of class, gender, and personal growth, culminating in a bittersweet and ambiguous ending. The musical is celebrated for its witty dialogue, memorable songs, and exploration of societal norms.
