Synopsis
Set in New York City's East Village during the late 1980s and early 1990s, 'Rent' follows a group of young artists and friends struggling to survive and create in the shadow of poverty, addiction, and the AIDS epidemic. At the center of the story are Mark, a filmmaker documenting their lives, and Roger, a musician grappling with his past and a newfound love with Mimi, a dancer battling her own demons. The group also includes Maureen, a performance artist, and her lawyer girlfriend Joanne, as well as Collins, a professor, and Angel, a drag queen and street performer. Together, they navigate love, loss, and the pursuit of their dreams while facing the harsh realities of life. The musical is a celebration of friendship, resilience, and the enduring power of love, underscored by a rock-infused score that captures the spirit of a generation.
