Music by Arthur Sullivan

Lyrics by W.S. Gilbert

Synopsis

The Pirates of Penzance follows Frederic, a young man who has been mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted pirates. Upon reaching his 21st birthday, Frederic is released from his apprenticeship and vows to dedicate himself to eradicating piracy. However, a twist of fate reveals that he was born on February 29th, meaning his apprenticeship is not yet complete. Meanwhile, Frederic falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, who is known for his clever and verbose patter songs. As Frederic grapples with his duty to the pirates and his love for Mabel, comedic misunderstandings and absurd situations ensue. Ultimately, the pirates are revealed to be noblemen who have gone astray, leading to a happy resolution for all.
