Synopsis

Set in 1950s New York City, 'West Side Story' is a modern retelling of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet.' The story follows the rivalry between two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds: the Jets, a group of white Americans, and the Sharks, a group of Puerto Rican immigrants. Amidst the tension, Tony, a former Jet, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks' leader, Bernardo. Their forbidden romance sparks further conflict between the gangs. Tragedy unfolds as the lovers' attempts to bridge the divide between their communities lead to devastating consequences, including violence and loss. Ultimately, the story is a poignant exploration of love, prejudice, and the hope for reconciliation.
